Hey there,
It’s been just a little under three weeks since I announced Blurring Time and released my new song, “514-415”. I still can’t believe that this project is (slowly but surely) becoming more than just a private link that I keep bookmarked on my phone. I’m so touched by the response to the song and album concept thus far - if you’ve taken the time to listen to “514-415”, thank you!
On a personal note, I’m really trying not to spend too much time or energy harrumphing about the current social and political climate as it’s been messing with my feng shui. But, I do want to express that four years ago, when I was properly coming to terms with my transness (and thus, beginning to write Blurring Time), I would have literally never guessed that the world would look as it does right now. To be honest, it feels like a cruel joke that my album rollout and Tr*mp’s first few months back in office—and by extension, all of the horrible, violent, and deeply scary orders he’s signing into place—are intersecting. I guess I hope that my music finds its way to those who need to hear it, but I also just wish, quite frankly, that I was releasing this music under different circumstances. I’m proud and stoked as hell, but I’m also scared and sad. I’m holding everything once. With this in mind, if you have any pals in Boston, NYC, LA, SF, Healdsburg, and Arcata, let ‘em know I’ll be passing through in June - I’m looking forward to feeling held by my community and yours on my tour this spring.
Speaking of tour stuff, I truly can’t wait to sing the songs off of Blurring Time in front of an audience. I’ve been chipping away at a setlist, thinking about what my band and I will wear on stage (NOTHING!), and even building a pre-show playlist.
Realistically, only 2/3 Han(n)a(h)s listed above would be added to a playlist of that nature, but I do think the fact that these three are my top artists at the moment is indicative of where I’m at right now…
… namely because I’ll be joining one of them on tour in a few months!
I’m soooooo happy to share that I’m opening for Hannah Georgas on her Ontario run in April <3 get yer tickets here!! Hannah rocks and I can’t believe I’ll get to hear her beautiful, transportive music four nights in a row :’)
If you’re curious as to what “514-415” sounds like when it’s just present-day-me singing, I put out a live video that I made with my friends Ray Goudy, Sam Tudor, Blake Hannahson, and Sam Gleason! You can check out here:
In classic artist-in-mid-album-rollout fashion, I have more to share real soon. But for now, I hope you’re as well as can be <3
Much love xo BL
What I’m listening to —> Heavy Metal by Cameron Winter, “Please Please Please (feat. Dolly Parton)” by Sabrina Carpenter, I’d Be Lying If I Said I Didn’t Care by Hannah Georgas, Sam Cooke: The Singles Collection by Sam Cooke, “Can We Be Still” by Georgia Harmer, Firm Believer by Christine Bougie, You Are The Morning by jasmine.4.t and the “This Is Hannah Montana” playlist on Spotify
What I’m watching —> For reasons I can’t quite explain, I’ve been indulging in an Orange Is The New Black rewatch. Is it comforting? Kinda. Has it aged well since my first watch, back in 2013? Not at all. I’ve been thinking a lot about my 15/16 year-old self and all they were up to/into (ty therapy), so I guess that’s why I’ve decided to revisit the show. Thankfully, my partner intercepted one my rewatch sessions a few nights ago by telling me they had access to the new season of The Great British Bake Off, so I’m on to that now
What I’m reading —> Last week, I finished Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler and wept upon reaching the last pages. Now I’m reading The Candy House by Jennifer Egan, a sequel (sorta?) to A Visit From the Goon Squad which is one of my favourite reads from the last few years
What I’m eating —> This fish dish!
